I have a couple of these one-piece outfits for my son. It fits in the arms but the legs are too short and the buttons keep popping open. But, I really liked it, so I set off to
repurpose!

First I cut off the legs.

Now I have a shirt and legs... I folded over and pinned the unfinished edge.

I sewed the hem and finished the shirt!

So easy!
Now I could not let the legs go to waste! I made this cute shirt and since it is fall it needed some long sleeves. I love the layered shirt look so I thought I could use these legs to make some sleeves!

I cut the legs apart and cut off the button part.

I turned the legs inside out and sewed it into a tube to make the sleeve. Since the bottom was already finished I was pretty much done, I just has to attach them to the shirt.

Here are my two sleeves.

I turned the shirt and the sleeves inside out and I pinned the long sleeves to the short
sleeves of the t-shirt.

Here is where it got a little tricky... in order to sew the long sleeves to the short sleeves I had to get the shirt on to my sewing machine. My machine has a feature where you can take off part of the tray so that you can sew around things. So I took off the tray and put the shirt around the machine by going through the neck of the shirt. I had to stretch the short sleeve a bit but it did work. It was a bit forced, but I was not going to let the machine get the best of me! : )

Ho0ray! Long sleeves!

And it looks so cute on my son! Love it!

I love it when I can
repurpose things! 2 long sleeve shirts for no out of pocket cost! LOVE IT!!

awesome idea!! and even using the legs is awesome!!!
Brilliant!!! My daughter always outgrew her one-piece outfits so quickly. This would have been a great solution.

Just a note, if you have a snap tool you can strength the snaps on outfits by 'repunching' them (obviously you don't have to make the hole). This usually works and the snaps will stay snapped. Great idea though, especially if the knees get worn.
great idea and I'm always looking for long sleeve shirts
