My guilty pleasure... PEOPLE Magazine

This week I had an OB appointment.  Now that I am a mom I find myself looking forward to doctor appointments because I get a little time in the waiting room to read a magazine.  Since I knew I had an appointment this week, I picked up the latest PEOPLE Magazine from my local Walgreens to bring with me!

PEOPLE Magazine is one of my guilty pleasures.  I love to get all the news on my favorite celebreties!  I never believe any celeb gossip unless it is in PEOPLE Magazine.  I love to see the pictures of the stars with their kids... makes me think they are real people.  Ya know, like I am kinda like Angelina and Brad because I have adopted children too! ;)  Ok- I know it is a stretch! : )

And since it is holiday time, a little stress reliever is needed.  Just a couple minutes with my PEOPLE can do wonders for me!  I mean who wouldn't feel better after reading an article about Brad Pitt?!

I also LOVE the crossword!  It is the only crossword puzzle that I can actually complete!

What kind of guilty pleasures get you through the holidays?

Turkey Frame Soup

We know Thanksgiving is done but here is a great recipe to use if you cook a turkey for Christmas, or you can also use a chicken frame too... or just Pin it for next year!

As long as your bird isn't too big, turkey soup in the slow cooker (crock pot) is a great, healthy way to stretch out that turkey. You can start it after dinner on Thursday (and save space in your refrigerator), or wait ‘til Friday if you’re too tuckered out from all that belly stuffing! This way you can be cooking even while you are out shopping, working, or just relaxing on Friday.

I got this recipe from my mom (who, by the way, is a fantastic cook), and adapted it for the slow cooker. If you’re not into slow cooking, or if your bird is HUGE you can certainly cook this on the stove in a large stock pot. Just don’t cook it as long or it will dry out and burn up!

Ingredients:
1 meaty turkey frame (carcass)
{works with chicken too!}
3 quarts broth (12 cups)
(or water with 1t bullion)
1 onion, sliced or diced
3 tomatoes, cut into wedges
(or 16 oz can)
1 ½ t dried oregano, crushed
1t dried thyme
Pinch of pepper
4 c. vegetables (carrots, onions, celery, mushrooms, broccoli, cauliflower, etc.)
1 ½ c. uncooked noodles, rice, quinoa, barley, etc.
Directions:
  1. Break or cut in half with scissors the frame if it doesn’t fit in the pot
  2. Put into large slow cooker (6-7 qt or larger) with broth, onion, and salt*
  3. Cook on low overnight (8-10 hours) or on high 4-5 hours*
  4. Cool and remove bones.
  5. Return meat (as much as you want, I like to save some for sandwiches) and broth to the pot, and stir in spices and veggies
  6. Cook on low 3-4 hours or on high 1-2 hours
  7. Stir in noodles or grains, simmer until done
  8. If it gets too dry, add water or more broth to make it more soup
*If you have a huge bird, you can do steps 2-3 in a large stock pot. Bring to boil on the stove, then simmer for 1.5 hours. After removing bones and other waste, it should fit into the slow cooker.

Design your own Holiday Fabric with Tulip!

I love making clothes for my daughter otr of jersey knit.  But, a lot of times it is hard to find a cute pattern on a jersey knit.  For Christmas I wanted to make a  holiday dress for my 2 year old daughter that was cute and comfy... jersey knit! But I could not find the pattern that I wanted!   Tulip to the rescue! Using Tulip Shimmer Sheets and Tulip Shimmer Paints I was able to create my own design for my jersey knit to make this cute holiday dress! Hooray!!

I am going to show you 3 ways to create your own fabric designs!

I got a box of awesomeness from Tulip with TONS supplies to create amazing projects!

Fabric # 1
Supplies needed:
Tulip Fabric Spray Glitter
White Fabric

I wrinkled the fabric to make it a more tie-died look and then I sprayed it with the Fabric spray glitter.
First I used the red and then let dry.
Then I wrinkled it differently and sprayed it with the silver glitter.
This is a very subtle effect... But I do like how it sparkles now!

Fabric # 2
Supplies:
Tulip Fabric glue
Tulip Fabric glitter
Stencil
Dabber or foam brush
Fabric
Tray (to catch the glitter)

Place fabric on tray and place your stencil in place and dab the glue on the stencil.
Remove the stencil and sprinkle the glitter over the glue
Shake off the excess glitter
Repeat in what ever patter you want.
Tip- less glue is better then more.  it got really blotchy when I used too much glue.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE how this turned out... totally worth all the glitter mess!

Fabric # 3
Supplies:
Tulip Glitter iron on transfer sheets
Iron
fabric

Cut out your desired shapes.
I used my silhouette to cut these snowflakes, the glitter sheets work with most die cutters!  But you don't need a die cutter to use them... you can cut out your shapes with a scissors or exacto knife too!
Place on your fabric in the patter you want.
place a piece of fabric over and iron for 40 seconds.
Test to see if it transferred- if not iron again.

So shiny and pretty!   These glitter sheets would also be great to spruce up a t-shirt too!

My daughter loved her dress!  When she put it on she said "Wook mom- it is SO shiny!"  and "I am a beautiful princess!" and then proceeded to do ballerina twirls for me!

I made the dress using the Hoody-pattern from Lil' Blue Boo and I just added length and the ruffle on the bottom.  I love this pattern and use it all the time!
