How to make a Tutu shirt

Can you believe I am doing 2 tutorials in one week??  Well, there is another one coming tomorrow too! {along with a HUGE giveaway!  You don't want to miss it!}
Have you seen those ADORABLE tutu t-shirts out there in stores?  Too CUTE!  I know that I am not the first blogger to make my own... but here how I made mine.

Today I am just sharing how to add the tutu to the shirt... I will make a tutorial for the shirt design later this week!

Ok- Here is what you need:
tulle (I got my roll from Joanns)
Sewing machine with sewing supplies

1. Cut a strip of tulle that is at least 1.5 times bigger then the circumference of your shirt.  fold your tulle in half and turn your shirt inside out.  On the WRONG side of the shirt sew the tulle to the hem... PULL and STRETCH the shirt hem as much as you can while sewing.
{In this picture I am only using one hand b/c I am taking a picture with the other, but I use both hands and pull from both sides to stretch the shirt hem while sewing.}  This will create a natural gather for your tulle.  Go all the way around your shirt and over lap at the start and finish.

Here is what it looks like so far.

For the next layer of the tutu I decided to ruffle the tulle.
I set my tension to the highest setting and my stitch to the longest stitch length.

My machine made ruffles automatically...  your machine may work differently... but you can always pull on the thread to gather it too.

Make sure to leave a LONG thread at the end!
This is so that you can lengthen your ruffle if you need to.

Sew the ruffle tulle to the RIGHT side of your shirt hem the same way you did the other layer... by stretching the shirt hem.
You now have a BEAUTIFUL shirt fit for any princess!

Tomorrow I will show you how I made this rhinestone #1 tutu-shirt for my daughter's 1st birthday!
AND we have a HUGE HUGE HUGE giveaway too...did I say that already?
Well- it is true and worth saying again!

Adorable! Love how easy this was. Thanks for the ruffling tip! I'm hosting my monthly Before Blogging party tomorrow and would love for you to come and share one of your amazingly creative projects from before blogging. I know you've been blogging for a couple of years, but we crafty types tend to have dozens of projects that have never gotten their proper "Tada!" moment. Can't wait to see what you bring.
