Hop, Hop, Hoppy Easter everyone! I wanted to share my lastest Easter wreath! I wanted to create a very colorful egg with an Easter Bunny "holding" the egg from behind, and here is the finished product!!

I love all the bright colors against our dark door! It was so easy to make. Here are the items you will need to complete this wreath:
Egg shaped styrofoam (I couldn't find one, so I bought just a rectangle and cut it into the egg shape)
Different colored fabrics
Fuzzy fabric for the rabbit's hands
Elmer's glue
Pencil
Ribbon
Headband Rabbit Ears (I got mine at the grocery store for $1.99)
Needle and thread to sew on the ears and hands

The first thing that I did was to cut out the egg shape from the rectangular shaped styrofoam using a serrated knife. Don't worry if it's not completely perfect, because the fabric should hide any imperfections.

Next I cut a slit into the styrofoam and put the ribbon that I was going to use to hang it with through the slit. I added a few more slits with ribbon for the ears and hands (that way I'd have something to sew it on with).

I then mapped out the different colors and patterns that I wanted for the egg. I decided on stripes and circles.

I cut all the fabric into 2" X 2" squares and then wrapped each piece around a pencil, dabbed it in glue and then added it to the styrofoam. For the ears, I cut them from the headband and then sewed them to the ribbon that I had attached to the styrofoam. I also tied a bow with some different ribbon, attached a note saying "Hoppy Easter" that I printed from the computer, and glued it onto the egg. Finally, I cut out some hand shapes from the fuzzy fabric and glued them on as well!

And, that's it!! Happy Easter Everyone!!

Let's give a big F&J welcome to Angie from The Country Chic Cottage!

Hello Fireflies and Jellybeans! My name is Angie from The Country Chic Cottage.

You may have seen my... Burlap Bird's Nest

or my...

When Fawnda was looking for people to guest post, I jumped at the opportunity. I just love Fireflies and Jellybeans! So when I stopped jumping up and down -- I realized I would have to come up with something great. Well no burlap this time...I needed something colorful for my front door....

So I made a Crepe Paper Wreath! I don't know about you but I end up with left over crepe paper streamers from parties.

Adding a wreath form and some florist's wire and I had a wreath. I threaded the crepe paper streamers onto lengths of florist's wire.

When you have enough threaded to go around your wreath. Wrap it around and tie it off in the back. I must confess that the back of this wreath is completely uncovered. But it will be our little secret, k?

Keep going til that wreath is full. Yep it takes a while. Is it worth it...yep it is... I cut out an "H" from a cereal box and covered it with pink crepe paper. Glue it on and add a ribbon to hang....

I hope you will stop by my country cottage. I just finished my bathroom redo...

And I have so much more to share with y'all.

A big thank you to Fawnda for letting me guest post...it has been tons of fun! Hope to see all of you back at the cottage!

Many thanks!

~Angie~

I also host a link party each Saturday on my blog. There are always a ton of really fun things shared there. I hope to see you there.

Today I want to share with you all how to make Fondant.

Fondant is really easy to work with, but the real stuff is nasty...that is all that there is to it. It does not taste good.

Fondant Recipe:
1 bag marshmallows
1 2 lb bag of powdered sugar
1 tsp coconut flavoring
1 tbsp water

Directions
melt the marshmallows, coconut flavoring, and water in the microwave. Then in a mixer add the powdered sugar. Make sure to add it slowly. You want the fondant to be the texture of dough. A little on the sticky side.

I made some fondant in Mesa and I used about 1/2 of the bag, but in Idaho I use 3/4 of the bag.

This is the fondant all mixed up. After you have made the fondant put it in some press and seal or an airtight bowl. Let it sit for about 10 minutes so that the sugars can all dissolve. Then you can start to work with it. If you have extra or need to wait awhile before using it, put it into the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Then when you are ready to use it put it in the microwave for a few seconds and you are ready to play again.

If you want to dye the fondant just knead the food coloring into it.
The possibilities are endless with fondant. I often make cupcakes and fondant when I am watching kids. It is just like play dough. Soft and pliable

I have a few more tips for how to use fondant here and here

Thanks again Fawnda for spotlighting me.

Nikki From Nikki's Nifty Knacks {Blog Anniversary Celebration}

This week Fireflies and Jellybeans is turning 1 year old! I like to celebrate with A LOT of people - So, I have lined up some GREAT guest posts and some FABULOUS giveaways for this week!

Today we welcome Nikki from Nikki's Nifty Knacks!

______________________________

Hey everyone, thanks for welcoming me here at F&J, I couldn't be happier to guest post, and celebrate the anniversary of one of the first craft blogs I stumbled upon.

For today's project I figured what could be more appropriate for this post than a jellybean wreath, in honor of Fireflies and Jellybeans :)

So, here's what I did:
I bought a wreath form from the Dollar tree, and 2 bags of Jelly beans. Originally I bought the regular ole' jelly beans, and I started hot gluing. I got the wreath finished, and realized, I didn't like it AT ALL!!!!!!!

I didn't like the colors of the jelly beans, and I REALLY didn't like the way the green wreath showed through the beans.

So, I went back to my dollar store and got some nice pastel speckled jelly beans, and this time I painted the wreath form white before I started gluing.

It took me a REALLY long time to finish, but in the end I was just tickled with it:

I wish I could say that this story has a happy ending. But tragically it doesn't. One Friday, while rushing out the door to score some crazy deals at Goodwill dollar day, I slammed the door a little too hard. And that's when I heard the sound of shattering glass. Who'd have thought jelly beans hitting the ground would sound like glass???? But, it did, and it smashed into pieces. Could we please have a moment of silence to honor all my hard work, gone, down the drain:

RIP Jellybean wreath 3/12/10-3/14/10

My front door was so ugly and naked without my bean wreath. But my hubby stepped up to the plate and decided to do some crafting of his own. See the lovely sign he made for our door? Thanks hon... *rolls eyes*

Thanks again for letting me guest post, and congrats on this anniversary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
