Need your advice - Sit and Stand Stroller

With the addition of our daughter, I was pondering getting a Sit and Stand Stroller instead of a Double Stroller.

What are your thoughts and advice on the topic?   Do you have one and love it or hate it?

We were going to do a sit and stand stroller for our kids, but my hubby pointed out that if our older son ever got tired there was no place for him, as well the seat was uncomfortable and pushed him forward. We did get a double AND LOVED IT!!! We were so happy to have it I used it non stop for over a year and took it everywhere!!! depending on the age of you kids... (mine 28 months and newborn) I would say double... we did the graco portia and it was easy to push, and turn

I have a Phil & Ted's with the double attachment seat. It's a little expensive but I got mine on Craigslist for a good deal. The best part is that it's not side by side - so it's easier to maneuver doors and tight aisles. The smaller child sits below the older one. Everywhere I go people are amazed by my "double decker" stroller. My little one doesn't complain about sitting on the lower seat because that's always been "her" seat. And when I only have one child the Phil & Ted's easily converts to a single stroller. Hope that helps. I didn't pick the sit and stand because my older child likes to "rest" while we are out shopping and I also wanted to be able to buckle him in when he was younger so he would stay with me.

We got the sit and stand to go to Disneyworld. The only downfall is that the kid in the back can't lay down and go to sleep, but my kids are old enough now that it doesn't totally matter. Love it.

I think the determining factor of this type of stroller is the age of your first child. Everyone that I know that has love them has had their first child at least 3 years old when they bought it. Most even older. I needed the double because my first was still 2 and needed something a little more confining. If you child is not far from walking for some or most of you shopping time, this is a great fit. Again, I totally think it depends on the age of your oldest child. Good and bad to all stroller types.

My children are 2 1/2 and 4 months and I love my sit and stand. Yes your older child can't sleep in it but my child never slept in her stroller. I find it useful that my older is not totally confind it works great when you are at places like the zoo when they keep wanting to get in and out. My daughter lies to stand it doesn't make her feel pinned down it the stroller but we go faster than when she it walking. Good luck!

I have borrowed my sister's sit and stand and really liked it. She bought it second hand and never uses it because she claims it is way to heavy. I found it more "sturdy" than heavy. I really liked it. I have no experience with a double stroller and my children are 2 and 4.

My daughter recently bought this same model for her 1 & 3 year olds and she loves it! It is so convenient that when the 3 yr old gets tired from walking, she can hop right on! It even fits in my (nanny's) small suzuki swift!

I have a double jogger, a double stroller and a sit 'n stand. I definitely prefer the sit 'n stand. We got it for traveling, but I use it at the zoo, short walks in the neighborhood, the mall. It folds up almost as small as a regular stroller so it fits in my trunk. And my son (who is almost 4) doesn't like to stay seated all of the time so this way he can just jump on and off rather than me having to help him in and out. It's been great for us!

I haven't used a sit and stand, but we have a Graco Quattro tour duo which I love. ITs barely bigger than my quattro tour stroller, though I'm not sure how it compares to a sit and stand. I really love mine adn feel like it maneuvers pretty well for a double stroller.

I have a 7,4,and 1 year old. We got the sit and stand. I love it. We like to push it's limits occasionally and let all three ride on it. It's a lifesaver! Only negative is the basket is a little hard to get into. But that can be solved with a stroller organizer/diaper bag. I would highly recommend as it grows with you :)

I have had min for 4 years now and I LOVE it!!!

My two are 2 1/2 years apart and we did not get a double stroller. I carried the little one in an Ergo carrier and the big one went in the stroller. When I need a seat for both of them, we take the wagon!

I have one and I LOVE it. LOVE. It is a Godsend and I will never go anywhere without it. I have actually even used it to haul three kids - two sitting on the back part and one strapped into the front - although I know it isn't intended to be used that way. (You do what you gotta do, no?) :)
The last time we traveled, i took it with me to the airport and it made EVERYTHING so much easier. I could use the stroller for diaper changes instead of having to run (literally) to a bathroom. I could strap the two year old into the back so he wouldn't take off running (like he did the time before that). i could put our carry-ons in it along with our kids. I seriously seriously recommend this for anyone with more than one child! I got the one from Shopko and it wasn't that expensive, and it has held up beautifully.

and by "one" I mean a sit and stand. Sorry... :)

I have had mine for 4 years. I love it. I have pushed the limits sometimes when I have had 3 kids and a bike on the dang thing. works like a charm. my kids are 1, 4, and 7. When they get tired on a walk it works great. they can sit you can still walk. Some times it feels like you are moving a truck but thats when all my kids are dangling on it. get one. When you only have one in the stroller it work great for carring your packages. shopping is easier.

I have a phil and ted double stroller, but I also have a sit-n-stand. I love both for different reasons. I think sit-n-stands are better for big age gap. mine are 5 1/2 and 2. It is perfect in the airport or when I shopping and my 5 1/2 year old gets tired of walking. I love the phil and ted for jogging or when when my daughter was a baby and she could lay down flat and my son would ride in it as well. I would never take phil and ted in airport because it is too expensive of a stroller.
With every stroller there are plus and minuses. I think if you do decide to buy one check craigslist because you can get one for a lot less, but still in great shape. Good luck.

With nine kids we have been through our share of strollers.

I have to agree with the other comments that it depends on the age of your older child.

The toddlers think they are old enough to walk now and it is such a pain putting them in and out of the back of a double (or triple) stroller.

The sit and stand is nice when they only need a little break from walking.

I spent $15 on my sit and stand (Thanks Goodwill!) and I bought my doubles (Peg Perego and Graco) and triple (Peg Perego) off of Craigslist. :)

There are things I like and things I hate about our Baby Trend Sit n Stand stoller. I like that my 3 yr old can sit when he's tired and I like that he likes riding in it. I like that it's easy to handle. I hate that my baby always seemed uncomfortable in it and wasn't able to lay down to sleep. I hate that it's so hard to get to the undercarriage to put up or get out my diaper bag.
I'd say do some research, find what brands you like of both type, and take them all for a test ride. Good luck!!

I have a double jogger and love it. We've had a side by side Combi and it was a good mall or airport stroller. With my 4th we got the Joovy ultralight and it is great. My 3rd child is 24 months and it works great for her. It really depends on what you'll use the stroller for and if your child needs to nap in the stroller. I highly recommend the Joovy. Easy ride, easy to push.

I recently borrowed a sit-and-stand for our trip to Disneyworld - - where had that thing been all my life - LOVED it!! way better than a double stroller...

I have five kids - two are 14 months and two are twins. I would choose the double stroller. Think of trips to the zoo, trips to the mall ... so much easier to have another seat for that tired kiddo.

I had the Joovy Caboose sit and stand that actually has a little seat in the back for you not so little one and a very comfortable seat in the front for baby. Do you research before you buy one. The wheels on certain strollers can't hold over a certain amount of weight and they stop turning and won't work..PAIN in the tooshie! My son was 3 when my daughter was a newborn. We used the Joovy for two years and it was great. My son at 5 wanted to walk everywhere so I gave it up. Good luck!

I bought a cheapo double stroller to tide me over during the first months of having two children under two in the middle of a snowy Canadian winter. My oldest was very jealous of the new baby, and tended to act out at the most inconvenient times so it was nice to be able to strap him into his seat when necessary. Fast forward just 3 or 4 months later, and I got a sit and stand. It's perfect for us and we're still using it nearly 2 years later. I added a walking strap to the side of it for when my big kid wants to walk (http://sewmanydreams.blogspot.com/2010/07/big-kid-walking-handle.html) which allows me to carry quite a bit of cargo on shopping trips when needed.

I think it also depends on the kind of car you drive. We have a Graco double stroller and love it. My friend has the same one plus a sit & stand, she likes the Graco better, but it won't fit in the trunk of her smaller car-she can only take it when she's driving her SUV. The sit & stand is better for smaller cars, but you can't keep a two-year-old in place very well.

I have two that are 19 months apart and got the Graco Quattro Duo. I have a sedan, and it folds small enough to fit in the trunk~it's small than my single stroller was! If you get one that has a removable tray on the front, the kid can hop in and out just like s/he would with the sit n stand, but you still have the option of resting/sleeping.

My kids are 21 months apart and I thought about the sit and stand and compared it to a double. I ended up getting a double because I couldn't lay the front seat all the way down for naps. I love it!

My first son was 2.5 when I had no.2 and he was at the stage where he still needed a regular stroller...so I bought the Maclaren triumph double and loved it! Only trouble is I found it a little bit cumbersome for shopping in crowded shops (our local dollar store, for example), so just recently I bought the Joovy Caboose Ultralight and I couldn't be happier!! My older son is now 3.5 and he loves the freedom of sitting in the back and hopping out when he wants to walk. The front seat is also perfect for my little one who just turned one, and loves to have some snacks in the snack tray. So...yes.....it really does depend of the age of your older child, and not just that, but whether or not they would sit in the rear seat. It's definitely not as comfortable....no back rest or way to lie back and relax. I know my son wouldn't have gone for that at 2.5. But now, a year later, it's completely different.

Good luck!

We have one and we love it! I do agree, that it is kind of a downfall not to be able to have your kids lay down or lean back very far. But, Reece is old enough (two now) that it hasn't mattered because she's at an age where she wouldn't sleep in the stroller no matter where we were or what we were doing. I did love being able to pop the car seat in it when Remi was younger. Now that she can sit up, she loves sitting facing forward and the front seat has the option to lean slightly (very slightly) back, which has been nice as she's still a bit wobbly with her sitting. Reece loves being able to sit or stand; she's a busy body, so for her to have options is great. I like how light it is and find it fairly easy to maneuver - double strollers can be tricky! Our only complaint is that when Reece is sitting, and Remi's seat is slightly leaned back, it seems like the front seat is kind of digging into Reece's back a bit. She's never seemed bothered by it, but maybe another child would?

Overall, we love ours and we use it all the time!

The sit and stand might not be perfect if your older one needs to sleep etc but if they are on the cusp ( ie 2 to 2 1/2) then given a few months it will be perfect. They need to walk, sit, stand and move, don't they ?

I have three boys (4, 2, & 5 months) and I LOVE my sit N Stand stroller that I got when I had my third baby. I love that it has buckles in the back for sitting on the platform or standing. I love that if the two older boys really want to ride, they can both fit (it is a little tight, but it works).

I would highly recommend this to anyone. I also love how easy it can be for the kids to get on and off the back rather than having to lift them up into a seat. I love that I can buckle them in if I want/need to (especially if they like ot wander off). I love the two kids can fit in back, which the double stroller can't really do.

I LOVE our sit'n'stand! Our daughter was 3 when we brought our son home. I loved that the carseat still fit into it so he could ride in it right away. I have used it for 3 kids before too. It really is a very nice stroller. I wish the basket was a little more accessible, but that's really all.

My kids are 2 1/2 years apart and we LOVE out sit and stand... people stop and ask about it all the time. Could not imagine life w/o it or the wagon!

I have the Joovy Caboose Ultralight. I love that it has a small spot on the back where I can harness my toddler if she needs to ride but its not that much bigger than my regular stroller.

My sister bought one and hated it, she said her older would get tired and there was no place for her.
I bought the side by side double and LOVED it! It folds up really compact and was pretty lightweight :)
