The Iron Crafter...

I have an idea for a crafty contest and wanted to get your feedback!

Have you seen the show Iron Chef America? It is where top chefs go head to head making their best dishes for a panel of judges. The catch is they have to use a Secret Ingredient.

So, I want to do a spin off of that... The Iron Crafter. I would pick a "secret ingredient" (that wouldn't be so secret because I would tell you) and you would have to make a craft with it. You can use anything else that you want but you HAVE to use the secret ingredient some how.

There are 2 ways I could run the contest...

1.) Have a set number of crafters compete. you would email me if your interested and I would select 5-10 crafters to compete. I would show case each of the crafter projects and I would have a voting poll to declare the winner. I am hoping to do several rounds so that everyone who is interested would get a chance.

2.) Have it be open to everyone. I would tell you the Secret Ingredient is and I would set up a linky party for people to link up their Iron Crafter submission. Jeannine and I would pick our top 5 - 10 favorites and then have a voting poll to declare the winner. Our picks would be based on Originality, presentation and use of the secret ingredient.

Let me know what you think. If you have any other ideas about the Iron Crafter contest feel free to share those too!

I am also looking for some sponsors to supply some of the prizes. If you are interesting in becoming an Iron Crafter sponsor email me at firefliesandjellybeans@gmail.com

I think this is an awesome idea!! I like the pick of 5-10 crafters and let them do a project. But a linky party would be fine too! Either way -- do it!! :)

I love the idea! I think opening it up to anyone who wants to participate and then having a linky party could get you some pretty cool submissions. Awesome idea!

I love the idea! I think both ideas have thier pros and cons, but I'm sure no matter what way you choose it will be a lot of fun!!!

I LOVE this idea!! I think it would be great to have it open to all crafters and let the imaginations soar. I think you could have some great results!

OHHH! This sounds fun! I would love to try something like this! I think I like the idea of everyone participating and then you select semi-finalists and everyone votes for the winner. That way more people can participate and I am sure there will be a lot of really cool submissions. But you can try it both ways...and see which works better.

Fabulous idea!!! Couldn't you do both? Pick 5-10 lucky contestants, then have a linky party to choose a wildcard winner too??

Looking forward to it!

Sounds really fun. My vote is to have it open to everyone. Depending on what you announce as the secret ingredient, some of us may or may not be able to come up with a crafty craft. Wouldn't that be funny if you got chosen to be a contestant and then you just came up blank after the secret ingredient was so announced. That's probably what would happen to me. So, I'd rather not have the pressure of being one of a few chosen. I would like to participate- just without pressure.

Sounds like fun to me too as long as it doesn't get too expensive!

I think it's a great idea. I like option 2. Allows a little more flexibility from week to week as to whether you want to participate and allows more overall involvement.

Love this idea and the name. I would put up a linky so that anyone could participate!

This is SUCH a clever idea! Love-love-love it! I think you could work it either way, but maybe doing an open-to-everyone challenge to pic ten or so crafters to compete each week could be a nice first round? Can't wait to see what you pick as the "secret ingredient"!

Love it!

I thinking having the first round open to everyone and then choosing favorites is a great idea! Mostly because I really really want to participate! :)

I love it! Sounds great, we did an iron chef dinner group in the last town I lived in. We got the secret ingredient 2 weeks before the dinner and could make a entree or dessert. I can't wait! Sounds like fun. Would you keep narrowing it down to a final winner? or keep it open every week?
