How To Make a Fabric Gift Bag for a Wine Bottle- Hostess Gift #3

What to bring for the hostess with the mostest? Wine in a cute, chic bag of course! It is so easy to make and I am going to show you how. For other hostess gift ideas look HERE and HERE

The fabric that I am using comes from this pillow I got from the Ikea As-Is corner. It cost me $3 and I am going to use it for this project and another up-coming project. The stuffing I am going to reuse to stuff what ever I need stuffing.

Here is what you will need for the Wine Gift Bag:
Fabric (2 pieces 8 X 15 inches)
Ribbon (I used a 24 inch length)
Coordinating thread
Sewing machine and simple sewing tools like scissors
Optional: Frey Check

1.) Put right sides together and sew across the bottom. Then, Cut out 1 inch squares out of the bottom corners. (since I was using the pillow my bottom was already sewn)

2.) With Right sides together sew the sides. I use a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

4.) Square off your corners.

5.) Put your bottle in the bag and decide high you want your bag to go by folding down the top.

6.) Once you have decided, sew your casing for your ribbon. My ribbon is thin so I made a 1/2 inch casing. If your ribbon is thicker you are going to want to make a bigger casing.

To sew your casing just sew around the bag making a little tunnel for your ribbon to go through.

7.) Make two slits in your casing where you want your ribbon to go through.

8.) Optional: use Fray Check on your slits to stop them from fraying.

9.) Put a safty-pin on one end of your ribbon.

10.) Push the safty-pin into and through your casing

11.) pull the ribbon so that it is even on both sides.

12. Place on your bottle and tie a bow!
You can also make the bag taller and move your casing a bit to make a bag like this one:

I should just sit down one day and make a stash busting bunch of these to have on hand. Great use of that pillow fabric.

I love that you saw that pillow as something else. Most people would just see the pillow and pass it up.

Great idea!! I should make up a bunch to keep on hand just in case. Then all I'd have to do is pop by the store on the way out to the party.

I posted a link to your tutorial on Craft Gossip Sewing:
