September Monthy Challenge Project#3- Baby Blankets

This weeks challenge was more than just being crafty! It was being crafty for a cause:

Grason's Gift: Meryntha put out this plea to the online crafting community

I am looking for your help. Hospitals all across the country are in need of small, very small, baby blankets. In cases of fetal demise, babies are so tiny, even the smallest nursery blanket is much too big to wrap around their tiny bodies.

what they need:12" x 12" and 24" x 24" flannel receiving blankets, in small pink, baby blue, white, and yellow prints. Use your best judgement, we don't want the prints of the blankets to detract from very small babies. The blankets also need to be double layered.

Mail them to:

I made 2 blanket that I am going to send off to Meryntha. One blue and one pink:

Here is what I did:
You will need:
2 pieces of 12.5 X 12.5 inch square pieces of baby flannel.
Sewing machine, thread, and iron

1.) Sew the 2 pieces together (Right sides together) using a 1/4 seam allowance. leave a 4-5 inch opening to flip it right side out.

2.) Flip right side out and iron the seams.

3.) Top sew around the outside edge using a zig-zag or decorative stitch... this will close off the opening as well.

This is as decorative as my machines gets:

Here are my two finished blankets:

This is an easy beginning sewing project. If you have a sewing machine you can do this!!
Joann's has their baby flannels for 50% off this week... you need less than half a yard so it is super cheap! Now you have no excuse! Go and make one now!

They are cute and bound to be appreciated by their tiny recipients. What a great cause.
