My new-to-me Sewing table

Growing up, my mom sewed quite a bit. She had a cool sewing table where the sewing machine folded down into a cubby in the middle and the sides flipped out to give her a nice work space. I always thought that it was something of an original because it was so neat. But it is not... it is somewhat of a norm when it comes to sewing. Which is a good thing since I wanted one (and my mom still uses hers)!

So I turned to Craig list to help me find one, and Find one we did!

Here she is:

Drawers for storage! Yippee- cubbies to keep all my stuff- one of my favorite things!

She flips open to this! It came with this Free-Westing House sewing machine. Do you think that it actually was FREE?

They don't make them like they used to... this thing weighs a TON! It also came with the little pin Scarf around the neck of the machine. Clever idea!

It had a knee/leg lever to run the machine, instead of a presser-foot. You just push this lever with you leg and it would go!

It came with all of the attachments. including a pleat attachment, to make a ruffled pleat every 5th stitch... COOL!

Some ancient antique scissors and bobbins.

A button hole attachment.

And some pictures.... do you think these cute girls sewed with this machine?

It also came with this Challenge plaque... I wonder if they were trying to tell me something about sewing?

Here are the manuals that came with it... very thorough!

I wish I could say that I am going to use this old machine with all its wonderful character, but I am not. I really like my machine.
My Sweet hubby is going to make it so that my machine fits inside of it (and probably put new hardware on it!) I will post pics when we get it all set up!

cool! that's a really pretty table, and a REALLY ancient machine! It looks about 100 years older than mine, and mine's old! So neat that you found those pictures, and all the old accessories and everything. So much character.

Yay for you! How fun to see all the stuff inside. When I bought mind it had scissors and some other things and I was thrilled. It's like winning free things :). You could probably sell the machine itself to an antique dealer. Can't wait to see your finished product!

VERY cool score! My mom has her sewing machine table/desk that does the same. I THINK it's a Singer (?) and I've always loved it. It's what she sewed on when I was a little kid before she got the "new" machine that is now at least 25 years old. Can't wait to see it with your machine in place. :)
